Linux Installation Service Terms

These terms apply to the ArkPC Linux Installation Service, where you send us your own laptop or desktop computer for assessment and installation of a Linux operating system. The service is provided by ARKNET PTY LTD (ABN 17 233 494 783), trading as ArkPC, Kingsholme QLD 4208. By placing an order you confirm that you have read and accept these terms.

1. What the service includes

  • A free compatibility assessment of your device when it arrives.
  • Installation of your chosen Linux operating system, fully updated and configured for your hardware.
  • Testing of the installed system before it is returned.
  • Return delivery of your device to an address in Australia.

The service does not include data backup, data recovery, transfer of files or software licences, repair of physical damage, or the supply of parts unless separately quoted and approved by you.

2. Fees

  • Service fee: $175 per device (GST inclusive).
  • Return delivery fee: $40 per laptop, $50 per desktop (GST inclusive). The return delivery fee is non-refundable once your device has been received, as it covers getting your device back to you whatever the outcome.
  • All fees are payable in full at the time of ordering, by credit or debit card. Any parts quote is also payable by card.

3. Sending your device

  • You arrange and pay for sending your device to us. You must use a tracked postal or courier service. Please pack it securely; we recommend insurance for valuable devices.
  • We are not responsible for loss or damage that occurs before your device is received by us, including parcels sent without tracking.
  • Laptops and mini PCs: please include the power adapter. Desktops: no power cable is needed. We cannot accept responsibility for bags, cases, cables or other items not listed on your Device Intake Form.
  • If we have not received your device within 30 days of your order, we will cancel the order and refund it in full.
  • Include the completed and signed Device Intake Form in the box. Devices received without a form may be held until we receive it.

4. Your data

  • All storage drives in your device will be completely erased. Any existing operating system, files, programs and settings will be permanently removed.
  • You are solely responsible for backing up anything you want to keep before sending your device. We do not perform data backup or recovery and cannot retrieve data once a drive has been erased.
  • Do not send devices containing data you are not permitted to have erased.

5. Device requirements

  • You must own the device, or be authorised by its owner to have this work carried out.
  • All firmware (BIOS/UEFI) and supervisor passwords must be removed, and the device must not be locked to, or remotely managed by, any organisation.
  • Devices that are locked, or whose ownership cannot be confirmed, will be returned without work being carried out. In that case the service fee is refunded and the return delivery fee applies.

6. Arrival inspection and Condition Report

  • When your device arrives, we photograph it as unpacked and carry out an initial inspection and hardware check.
  • Your device then joins our assessment queue. Once it has been assessed, we email you a Condition Report recording its physical condition and any faults or incompatibilities found. We work through devices as quickly as we can, but assessment times are not guaranteed.
  • If you believe anything in the Condition Report is incorrect, please tell us within 48 hours of receiving it. After that time the Condition Report is accepted as the condition of the device when it reached us.

7. If parts or repairs are needed

  • If a component prevents your chosen operating system from running reliably (for example a wireless card or storage drive), we will contact you with our recommendation and a written quote.
  • No part will be fitted and no additional charge made without your approval.
  • If you choose not to go ahead, or if the device cannot be completed, we will refund the service fee and return the device to you. Only the return delivery fee applies.
  • If we do not hear back from you within 14 days of sending a quote, we will return the device as it is, on the same basis.

8. Existing faults and wear

  • We are not responsible for faults, damage or wear that existed before your device reached us, including faults recorded in the Condition Report.
  • Ageing components such as storage drives, batteries, fans, hinges and screens can fail during normal installation and testing. Where this happens because of the component’s existing condition, it is not caused by the service, and we will let you know and offer options.

9. Our guarantee

  • We guarantee our installation work for 30 days from the date your device is dispatched back to you. If the installation itself has a problem within that time, we will help you remotely and, where needed, correct it at no further service charge.
  • Your hardware remains covered only by its original manufacturer warranty, if any. This service does not add a hardware warranty to your device. Any parts we supply and fit are covered by their own warranty, as stated on your quote.

10. Return delivery

  • We pack your device carefully and return it via Australia Post Tracked, with Signature Required on delivery, to the address you provided at checkout. Someone will need to be available to sign for the parcel.
  • Please make sure your address and phone number are correct. Additional delivery attempts or re-delivery caused by incorrect details may incur extra cost.

11. Our right to decline

We may decline or stop a job at any time, for example where a device is unsafe to work on, appears to be locked or not owned by the sender, or where communication becomes abusive. In that case we will refund any part of the service fee for work not carried out and return the device. We may also decline future orders.

12. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability in connection with the service is limited to the amount of the service fee you paid, and we are not liable for loss of data, loss of use, or indirect or consequential loss.

13. Your consumer rights

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded.
